Our team is a group of highly qualified and experienced outdoor educationalists who spend all their spare time outside taking part in outdoor adventure activities. We travel all over the world and coach to the highest levels, our team are brought into other centres to train staff, they have lots of different high level qualifications – but above all we love what we do, and we want to show you why!
As well as our full time staff and seasonal staff, we are joined by some superb freelance Instructors who are all experts in their field and who’s enthusiasm is contagious.
Mitch Burson – Director of Operations and Education
Has spent many years working in and managing special education units. Most recently she has been responsible for teaching Maths at one of the Islands tuition centres. Mitch has an in depth knowledge of the benefits of alternative education and of outdoor education within the school environment, and is a strong advocate of tailoring education to specific needs.
Archie – Teacher
Archie is a qualified teacher, mountain leader, BCU L3 sea coach and is a DofE gold assessor. He is in charge of our expedition courses and our DofE programmes.
Archie runs our special projects and long term programs
Aston Rose Kirby – Lead Instructor
Is our lead Instructor in charge of all the activities that we run and a schools tutor. He ensures activities run smoothly. He has many qualifications, including ASI L2 Instructor and BCU L1 Coach.
He is in charge of making sure that all the equipment is maintained to the highest order.
Aaron Reed – Schools Tutor
Aaron has many years of experience working with hard to reach young people through outdoor education and passionate about individualising education programmes to the the needs of his students..
Aaron runs our long term Y11 programs.
Activity Assistants and Apprentices
Dan – Activity Assistant
Is hardcore and has been dubbed the crash test dummy! He has jumped the biggest jumps and gone out in the biggest surf and keeps coming back for more! Dan helps us keep the kit and stores organised. When its big and going off he is one of those people you want around! He is a BCU L1 Coach.
Kai – Activity Assistant
Kai is in his 2nd year in 2014 but he has already made his mark here at IOWAA. He is a very keen kayaker and SUPer and is always chasing qualifications and experience. He has had input over the past year with great ideas and enthusiasm. He is an ASI L2 SUP Instructor and is putting a SUP instruction film together.
Esther Minnigin – Activity Apprentice
Esther’s enthusiasm is contagious, she loves being outdoors, whether it is on a bike, a boat or a board. She is a really keen paddle boarder and is working on building her skills and developing her instructional skills.
Charlie Harris – Activity Apprentice
Charlie is new to the team for 2014. He is on our apprenticeship programme and has a great enthusiasm for watersport and bushcraft. He is an RYA Instructor and a BCU L1 coach. He is currently working on his BCU 3* Sea Kayak and on developing his SUP skills.
