Our awesome team love the outdoors and having adventures whether skiing in New Zealand or going on bike rides with our own young kids, or Sea Kayaking in Scotland; we love getting out there and doing it, and thats why we love sharing awesome adventures with our guests.
LOVING OUTDOOR ADVENTURES
PASSIONATE ABOUT EDUCATION
We are true believers in the power of the outdoors to educate both young and old, you never stop learning and being with people in incredible locations is, in our opinion, the best place to learn new things. Our teams goal is to blend adventure and education and to have great fun doing it.
SOME OF OUR AMAZING TEAM
Some say Archie is THE chosen son of mother nature herself, and is now actually powered and functions via the bundles of energy and laughter he absorbs from every group he works with like a basking lizard in the sun. He’s ‘been there and got the badge’ for just about every Adventure it’s possible to have. When Archie isn’t charging his batteries delivering the best Outdoor Education on the planet, he’s writing educational programmes, reading, playing 5 a side football, going to the gym and playing instruments (badly). Archie is the (grand)father figure of the outfit and is always the first to bring a chuckle to anyone’s morning.
Izzy has quite literally grown with Adventure Activities into the incredible instructor she is today. Izzy loves the outdoors and is especially passionate about working with our smallest and youngest customers (who think the world of Izzy!). She’s paddled around the coast of Scotland and inspired many young woman to get stuck into the outdoors! Izzy plans to continue to develop her career at Adventure Activities by continuing to gain a huge variety of instructing qualifications.
Nobody actually knows how many hats Sam has… Known as the Pap, Chiv and occasionally, Sam- it’s hard to think of what Sam doesn’t do at Adventure Activities. Not only can he whip up a roof to a kit-store in under 5 minutes, or fix a land-rover with nothing more than a can of red bull, urine and some superglue, he’s also a very passionate outdoor education professional and works closely on our eduction programmes. Sam used to work on Super Yachts in the Med and in Summer camps in the US but is now living the dream here on the Isle of Wight!
A man of many words and little hair, Lewis’ Moto is ‘People Grow Outside’. Lewis brings advice from across the pond to Adventure Activities on a Freelance basis, helping to run our residential programmes after his 6 years of Outdoor Adventure Guiding in the USA. Lewis has a strong passion for Jackets and can talk at impressive length on the pro’s and con’s of just about every technical piece of clothing out there.
SENIOR GUIDE & PROGRAMME MANAGER
It’s impressive that Tim looks so young with all the Adventure Wisdom he holds within him! Tim handles the day to day running of activities, our programming and staff training. He holds senior qualifications in just about every activity under the sun and knows Freshwater Bay better than Harry Potter knows magic. He’s a through and through outdoors man and watching him Kayak surf is a real thing of beauty. Tim’s led numerous circumnavigation’s of the IOW and once did a 60ft Coasteer jump in Pembrokeshire. He’s also a top bloke and enjoys a pint of lager.
In his own words, Chris ‘teaches awesomeness, or watersports…’. 12yrs of imparting his knowledge on budding watersports enthusiasts all over the world have been recognised with Chris receiving the ‘Breathing Life Award’ in 2010 from the Cystic Fibrosis Trust in recognition of his achievements. Chris enjoys a full on outdoor lifestyle filled with Snowboarding, Sailing, Kayaking, MountainBiking and shooting some arrows!
HR & TRAINING
Claire (K) keeps us all sane! Claire’s 16yrs of experience in the outdoor sector are utilised by making sure our team are the best they can be. Claire joins us from a background of Events Management in the City of London and most recently a lead assessor and quality assurer of training in the outdoors! When she’s not training the future of the outdoor sector she’s a kick ass mum of two who enjoys drinking tea from a cup and saucer, yoga, good food, dancing and staying up till the sun rises!
The man who is constantly looking for new ways of sharing the outdoors with as many people and in as many new ways as possible. His drive and determination is tiring to even watch, and he often starts the day with a 20 mile, or more, bike ride. Joes youthful look belies a very long list of things that he has achieved and things he loves to do. He is studying for a MSc in Business, whilst somehow working a more than full time job with us. He has a degree in archaeology and has been a
pharamsusticl, paramasisticl, a pharaicicle he sold medicines. He has competed at the Island Games, and did quite well!
Claire (R) is our behind the scenes marketing & customer service machine. There’s no email that goes unanswered, no call that gets missed and no advert that doesn’t look it’s best. When Claire isn’t doing computer wizardry making us look good she’s chilling with her friends, cooking incredible vegetarian food (we’ve tried it, it’s awesome). She’s also a keen traveller and has Ski’d around the world, working in the Alps & New Zealand.
Owen knows the outdoors, very, very well. He’s worked in the industry everywhere from Mexico to Iceland to Wales and further. He was the youngest person to ever hold 3 BCU 5* awards, has coached World Champion level kayakers and was the Navys Kayak Technical Advisor. He’s driven by a passion to make sure everyone has fun in the outdoors. He once did a two mile wheelie for charity on a MTB and discovered 2 miles of unknown cave system in the Ogof Draenen in South Wales! When he’s not busy organising pencils, he sometimes gets the chance to go out on the water! He has read Tim and Joes description and has wondered why his does not include references to looking youthful!
Bearing a striking resemblance to a famous christian deity (but much cooler) Michael is one of our current instructor extraordinaire’s in training. Michael has come from a background of engineering and was even a chef before he decided to change paths for a life of Adventure. Michael loves teaching people new skills and enjoys a bit of Warhammer in his spare time.
Sophie is one of our past apprentices turned super instructors! After working for PGL and moving to the IOW from Pembrokeshire to undertake her training. She’s a specialist Archer & Coasteerer and even has had a national record in Archery… She’s a keen rugby fan and spend’s her spare time cycling, kayaking, paddleboarding, sea swimming and catching up on the latest sporting news!
Having escaped Cardiff working in a Tesco Direct Customer Service Centre for Freshwater Bay on the IOW. Huw has been with us for 2 years after completing his Level 2 Apprenticeship in Outdoor Activity Instruction. Huw lives, breathes and eats (lots of Chinese) Adventure. He loves his job and says: ’In short working for this company is single handedly the greatest accomplishment so far in life for me’. If he’s not instructing, he’s working on his skills in the water, chilling with his pals and eating Chinese Food! His mum says “he’s a very good boy”, and we agree.
INSTRUCTOR & OUTDOOR EDUCATION ASSISTANT
Aiden is our very own Mr Motivator! After doing a BTEC in sport at College and working as a KP Aiden signed up for the Apprenticeship programme and has never looked back. Aiden’s most recent role has included the running of our ‘Opportunities Programme’ to get disillusioned teenagers re-motivated and back into education. He loves working with our education programmes and on our residential experiences and will always be found starting a rave around the campfire on the last evening. Aidens heading off to the University of Brighton in September to study Sports Coaching and will be returning in his holidays to get his Adventure Fix!
Once a work experience lad and now has a job! After doing work experience at Adventure Activities 3 years ago with his school Sam now works for us and is planning on undertaking our Winter Training Programme. Sam’s like a fish in the water and can’t be away from it! He’s a dab hand with a camera and a bit of an International runner! In his spare time he’s free diving, running, long boarding, kayaking and generally being a pretty cool dude!
